North Valley Symphonettes (NVS) serves typically middle-school-age musicians, but also younger and older players who fit best in this ensemble. Students must have at least one year of experience on their instrument, have finished Suzuki Book 1 (or a similar methods book), and possess strong basic music-reading skills.
To asses each child's level and to ensure comfort with their placement in Symphonettes, families will be asked to schedule an entrance interview with the Symphonettes director. At the interview, the student will be required to play a one octave scale of their choice and a portion of an etude or solo piece that showcases their current skill level. It is preferable that the piece be a melody for their instrument, rather than a school orchestral excerpt. At this time they will have an opportunity to meet the director and may be asked questions about their previous musical experience, as well as have an opportunity to ask any questions they may have about the Symphonettes. To schedule an entrance interview, please email email@example.com.
Symphonettes provides an opportunity for young musicians to participate in an orchestra, very often for the first time in their musical career.
If you have a passion to perform great music, can meet weekly for rehearsals, and are willing to commit to the necessary practice, we want you in North Valley Symphonettes.
There are no limits. Our programs allow talented and dedicated students to progress from North Valley Symphonettes, to North Valley Youth Strings and then to North Valley Youth Orchestra. Some advanced students ultimately audition for the NVSO Adult Orchestra. See our current members at the
NVSO Youth Ensembles page.
